I painted this icon on a visit to my family two years ago. I stored it away, and as they things cosmically happen, it resurfaced at the right time and place (thank you @wildlifeworks). But the real inspiration was provided by an indirect source. I showed it a (white) friend of mine and he said, “Oh that’s cute! Black Santa!” I gave him a withering look and replied (cooly), “No. Just ‘Santa’”. That’s when I knew I had to create some t-shirts and tote bags and add them to my store to educate some people. So that’s what I’m doing.
